Genre Research Activity, Science Fiction

One of the most popular film genres of our generation is without a doubt science fiction. The word fiction refers to stories that focus on portraying made-up people, places, and situations in said imaginary world. Science fiction films, attempt to represent and characterize occurrences that are not acknowledged by modern science, depicting circumstances that may involve extraterrestrial life, robots, interstellar travel, and any other futuristic aspect overall.

As it was previously inferred, the science fiction genre possess many characteristics whose ultimate goal is to convey a message to its audience. Some of these attributes include completely made up universes, teleportation, time travel, etc. For example, the famously renowned film "Back to the Future" is so iconic thanks to director Robert Zemeckis being able to play around with aspects everyone is used to, meaning real life situations and then mixing it with a whole new world in the future. Thanks to this, the audience is able to think not just about what the new location around them is all about, but also wonder more about time travel which is the main premise of the film. The main audiences for science fiction movies range from ages 18 to 29 whom are basically adults. This makes sense because this genre must be extremely detailed in order to properly convey a message, building entirely new worlds for audiences is no easy task.

Science fiction movies are overall extremely interesting due to their futuristic and imaginative tropes. However, marketing is still necessary in order to release the entire potential. These movies generate huge profits through a variety of ways. For example, to promote Star Wars, Disney created hilarious sci-fi ads about the movie in order to make a connection with the people. Also, another big way of promotion is to partner up with other popular companies that promote show the product, for example, a 2011 Volkswagen TV advertisement partnering up with Star Wars.

A big example of a series that is filled with science fiction, is none other than Star Trek. Soft science fiction is well exemplified by the Star Trek series. In a futuristic, space-opera setting, the series is renowned for examining social and political themes. This ability to immerse the viewer into the new world, is a reason that makes science fiction one of the best genres out of all.

Also, another very popular science fiction entry, featuring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt is Passengers. Thousands of people can be transported to planets in nearby star systems by opulent interplanetary starships in this futuristic movie, which transports viewers to that time period. The futuristic space thriller's writers outdid its predecessors "Gravity" and "Interstellar" in terms of physics, despite the fact that several components of its plot may seem unrealistic to doubters.

Overall, it is very clear that science fiction works, even though their topics may be a little out of reach, innovate the industry and provide creativity for people all over the world.
